In this edition of the ISSUE Podcast, we talk to Dina Zaman – who I’m sure is no stranger, at least to the Malaysian public. She graduated in creative writing and has since ventured into journalism, non-fiction essays, poetry and her latest – King of The Sea * – is a collection of short stories largely inspired by the time she spent in Terengganu as a child.
In line with this month’s theme – SELF DISCOVERY – we ask Dina what its like, to have hopped across different genres with her writing – how does she identify herself creatively? Dina also grew up living in Malaysia, Japan and Russia – how has Dina’s perception of herself evolved over time, having hopped across these different cultures?
The prolific writer has written about different places, traditions and identities – has this has had any effect on her personal Self-Discovery? Has her vision of the material world changed with the diverse journey she has had as a writer?
* ‘King of The Sea’ is available on Silverfish.
